Career Stats 210 tackles, 33.5 sacks, 57 tackles for loss, 14 forced fumbles.
By the written word:
Kerrigan is an athletically limited, incredible productive end from Purdue. He shows good snap anticipation, a quick first step, and tends to knock the ball loose whenever he gets to the quarterback. Absolutely relentless, and will absolutely maximize his talent. The only thing he?ll have to prove is that he can hold up against NFL-caliber tackles.

Why Kerrigan is the pick:
The Jaguars defensive backfield is atrocious, but there aren?t any DBs on the board worthy of this selection. Thus, the Jaguars turn their attention toward Improving a rush that registered just 26 sacks last season.
The choice, in all likely, good comes down to three: Da?Quan Bowers, Aldon Smith, and Ryan Kerrigan.
Why Kerrigan?
Both Bowers and Smith come with significant question marks, and according to Todd McShay: ?General manager Gene Smith likes safe, high-motor, strong-character picks who can contribute right away, and Kerrigan fits that mold perfectly.?
Who else was considered:
1. Da?Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson ? Still, the top talent on the board.
2. Aldon Smith, DE/OLB, Missouri ? Smith is the high risk/high reward version of Kerrigan.
3. Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas ? The quarterbacks are the dark horses for Jacksonville. David Garrard is serviceable, but you can only go so far in the NFL with a serviceable quarterback.
4. Jake Locker, QB, Washington ? More athletic than Mallett, but less of a pure passer.
5. Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State ? In my opinion, Ponder is a poor man?s Jake Locker.
