EPL: Atltico Madrid's David De Gea to Replace Edwin Van Der Sar Next Season?

Atlético Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea could be on his way to Manchester United as replacement for veteran Edwin van der Sar, who is retiring at the end of the season, according reports in the Spanish press.

The prodigiously gifted shot stopper has been heavily liked to the Red Devils in the past and reports suggest Sir Alex Ferguson is a keen admirer of the 20-year-old, thinking of him as the ideal successor to the retiring Edwin Van der Sar.

Goalkeeping coach Eric Steele and Van Der Sar himself have given the go-ahead for the 20-year-old Spanish U-21 keeper.

De Gea, a product of the Atlético youth system, has been tracked by the Old Trafford club since he made the No. 1 spot his own at the Vicente Calderón in late 2009, and is already thought to be house-hunting in Manchester.

De Gea has shown maturity to become the first choice custodian at the Vicente Calderon and has a number of suitors vying for his signature, including FC Barcelona.

Ferguson has been linked to a number of potential replacements understandably with the likes of Munuel Neuer, Hugo Lloris and Pepe Reina being mentioned repeatedly for the past six months.

Sir Alex has already signed Danish stopper Anders Lindegaard in December last year and if reports are to be believed, then he'd be playing second fiddle to De Gea next season.
