2011 NFL Mock Draft: Will the Jaguars Settle for a Defensive End?

Jacksonville Jaguars should take a chance on Cameron Jordan.

I?m pretty sure that Jacksonville?s response to the idea of taking Cameron Jordan at 16 is going to be a shrug of the shoulders and an ?I guess.?

But that?s what happens when your team needs are in no man?s land of the NFL draft. Here?s the problem with the draft: everything is about value. A team might need a quarterback, but don?t want to draft him in the top five because they have to pay him like a top five player.

That?s why when you get to a team like Jacksonville, there are going to be questions. They need a linebacker like Von Miller, but he?s not going to be there. They?ll  need a defensive back like Prince Amukamara or Patrick Peterson, but they?ll be long gone.

Brandon Harris and Jimmy Smith would be there for them but they don?t have the gumption to take those guys with pick 16. Again, it?s not about need in the top 20, it?s about value. Very rarely do they buck that trend.

So, that leaves a smaller need on the defensive line and Cameron Jordan still available. The upside is even though he?ll be their consolation pick, he?s going to be good so it?s doubtful they?d ever regret it.

A shrug of the shoulders works out for them.
