Update: Body of missing Purdue running back found in Indiana lake

Carroll County, Ind., investigators have confirmed that they have recovered the body of Purdue running back Sean Matti from the Indiana lake where he was reported missing on Sunday, according to multiple local outlets and at least one former teammate. He was 22.

Matti was last seen around 5 p.m. on July 3 while swimming with friends near a home on Lake Freeman, less than an hour northeast of Purdue's campus. He reportedly had been drinking when he disappeared, according to witnesses, and had been missing for more than six hours before friends called the Carroll County Sheriff's Department around 11:30 p.m. Members of the sheriff's department and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources began to search the shoreline of the lake on Sunday night, and continued Monday with divers, sonar, search dogs and a fixed-wing airplane from the Indiana State Police. The body was found in the waterTuesday morning by officers from the state Department of Natural Resources.

Matti, a former high school star from Shoreview, Minn., was on track to finish his Boilermaker career this fall as a fifth-year senior after initially walking on in 2007, though he had yet to see the field in his first four years. A team spokesman described him to the Lafayette Journal and Courier Monday as "a good program guy" who contributed on the scout team and is "well-liked by his teammates."
