Kentucky fans take no days off ? not even their wedding day

If Landon Bishop had even the slightest shred of doubt he had chosen the right woman to be his wife, it disappeared as soon as he entered the reception hall and saw the wedding cakes she'd selected.

In addition to a traditional white layered cake with Kentucky blue stripes, there was also a second cake in the shape of a basketball and a third resembling the No. 11 jersey point guard John Wall wore with the Wildcats.

"She really surprised me," said Bishop, a Lexington native and lifelong Kentucky basketball fan. "We did our big entrance, danced a little bit and I took a glance over at the cakes and I saw a lot more blue than what I had expected. It was a great surprise."

A Kentucky-themed cake was fitting for Bishop, who still remembers sequestering himself in his closet and bawling his eyes out the night Christian Laettner beat his beloved Wildcats in the 1992 East Regional finals.

Bishop's fandom only grew from there even after he moved out of state after high school. Not only does he watch as many Wildcats games as he can on TV, he also begs his wife and kids to change their outfits to something Kentucky blue on game days.

Although the cakes were a total surprise to Bishop, he'd dropped plenty of not-so-subtle hints to his bride-to-be Tawanda about his desire for a Kentucky-themed wedding. She understandably balked at his idea that she wear a blue wedding dress, but she donned blue high heels and a garter with a Kentucky logo. Furthermore, she gave Bishop Kentucky cuff links and permitted him and his groomsmen to wear blue pocket scarves, vests and ties to go with their traditional black suits.

"She just wanted the wedding to be a black and white wedding, but I said we've got to have some Kentucky blue somewhere," Bishop said. "I kept trying to convince her to add more blue, and she'd throw a little bit here or there."

Guests were both surprised and amused to see the John Wall cake, especially after Bishop set the ground rules for what they had to do in order to get a piece. Only those willing to do the John Wall dance received a piece of that cake. Everyone else got a slice of the layered cake alongside it.

Bishop tweeted pictures of the cakes on Monday to Wall and Kentucky coach John Calipari, both of whom got a chuckle out of it.

Wrote Calipari, "You guys are crazy, but I love it!!!! Congrats."
