The Western Athletic Conference wants to send out membership invitations by April 1 in order to complete its new conference by 2013 and comply with FBS regulations, but it can't move forward until it gets some closure from the Mountain West.The Mountain West has already poached Boise State, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii from the WAC and San Jose State, Idaho, Utah State and New Mexico State have all expressed interest in following suit. Utah State, as reported by FanHouse, took advantage of a basketball trip to Denver to pitch the Mountain West personally.
Louisiana Tech, the fifth member of the remaining "WAC Five," has been exploring possible membership in Conference USA, though several sources say that alliance is unlikely to happen.
