2011 NBA Mock Draft: Was Chad Ford on Point in His Latest Mock?

With the lottery order set, ESPN?s Chad Ford updated his mock draft last week. His picks make a lot of sense top to bottom, but there are definitely a few that will raise eyebrows.

Hits

Kyrie Irving to the Cavaliers makes a lot of sense, especially if Derrick Williams is really planning to play small forward at the NBA level.

Replacing Bismack Biyombo with Tristan Thompson as the Pistons' selection seems like the right call. Thompson is ready to contribute a lot sooner, and it?s hard to see the Pistons waiting around for Biyombo?s nonexistent offensive game to develop.

Markieff Morris, if he really falls as far as Philadelphia?s No. 16 pick, would be a terrific addition for an undermanned Sixers frontcourt.

Misses

Kenneth Faried is a terrific player, but (as Ford actually points out himself) the Pacers already have two very similar forwards in Jeff Foster and Tyler Hansbrough. It?s hard to see them carrying three of these guys on the same roster.

Charles Jenkins, the Hofstra guard Ford tabs for Chicago at No. 30, is a solid combo guard with lots of scoring ability, but will the Bulls really pick him over proven winners like Shelvin Mack or Nolan Smith?

Purdue?s JaJuan Johnson is absent altogether from Ford?s first round. In a draft short on post talent, it?s hard to see the 6?10? Johnson (a sensational shot-blocker) falling to Round 2.
