• Squandering a late five-point lead in a 69-61 loss against Richmond on Sunday was the least of Seton Hall's concerns over the weekend after star guard Jeremy Hazell was shot four times below his right arm when someone tried to rob him on Christmas Day. The good news is the injuries are not considered life-threatening and Hazell is resting comfortably at his home.
• One of the marquee games of the Big East season takes place Monday night when UConn travels to Pittsburgh, an early season test that does not please Huskies coach Jim Calhoun. "The league won't change it because I don't like it," Calhoun told the Hartford Courant. "I just think that when it comes down to teams looking for high seeds in the Big East tournament, obviously then onto the NCAA tournament, I wouldn't want to see a game here two days after Christmas cost somebody."
• Great Q&A from Yahoo! Sports' Jason King with Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight, who compared himself to predecessor John Wall in the interview. "The difference is that I think I can shoot the ball a little bit better than he can," Knight said. "He's so much faster than everyone, he can get to the basket and score anytime he wants. But I know he's working on his jump shot a lot. And with Coach Cal, I'm being forced to work on my speed."
• Who deserves the most credit for Ohio State recruiting Jared Sullinger before the rest of the sport's marquee programs? Maybe his older brother J.J. Before Jared grew into his body, honed his post skills or developed a consistent mid-range game, J.J. told Buckeyes coach Thad Matta, "I don't want to tell you how to do your job, but you need to offer my brother a scholarship."
• The blizzard in the Northeast has already forced the cancellation of at least one major-college basketball game. Fordham originally scheduled a game at Georgia Tech on Monday, but they have mutually agreed not to make it up after the Rams were unable to fly to Atlanta.
• D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the five-star class of 2012 shooting guard who surprised many by choosing Xavier in October, is now back on the market, a significant blow to coach Chris Mack's recruiting efforts. The 6-3 high school junior says he's definitely still considering the Musketeers, but he'll open up his recruitment to other programs in the Midwest and beyond.
• Of all the candidates to be first-round picks in next year's NBA draft, Minnesota's Rodney Williams may be the one that surprises casual fans the most. Williams is still raw and hasn't consistently produced in two seasons at Minnesota, yet scouts like the athletic wing's combination of length and explosiveness.

• Instead of burning a year of Kadeem Jack's eligibility on a team that's unlikely to be competitive in the Big East this season, Rutgers coach Mike Rice will redshirt the freshman big man. Jack had originally planned to spend this year at a prep school, but decided to enroll early at Rutgers in time for spring semester instead.
