Dustin "McLovin" Hazelett Cut By the UFC After Third Consecutive Loss

Dustin “McLovin” Hazelett has become the latest victim of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s “three straight losses and you are done” program.

Hazelett tapped out in the first round of his bout against Mark Bocek on Saturday, December 11. The submission loss at UFC 124 was his third straight loss with the organization.

Hazelett’s last win came in November 2008, when he defeated Tamdan McCrory. McCrory tapped out at the 3:59 mark of round one due to a reverse armbar. The victory earned Hazelett the “Submission of the Night” award and a $60,000 bonus.

In Hazelett’s prior fight against Josh Burkman. he was also victorious by submission, using an armbar to force Burkman to tap out late in the second round. The Burkman bout, which took place at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale event, was impressive enough to earn Hazelett awards for “Fight of the Night” as well as “Submission of the Night.” He earned an extra $40,000 in bonus money for the awards.

Sherdog also awarded Hazelett “Submission of the Year” for the Burkman bout.

Hazelett was unable to use the momentum of those two wins due to some unfortunate circumstances.

He was scheduled to take on Ben Saunders at UFC 96, but was forced to withdraw from the March 2009 event due to injury.

His next bout was scheduled for November 2009 against Karo Parisyan. Parisyan pulled out of the fight the day before the weigh in and no replacement was found on such short notice. UFC president Dana White did pay Hazelett for the fight, as well as awarding him the win bonus.

Hazelett would not step back into the Octagon until January of this year. In that bout, he was knocked out by Paul Daley and suffered an orbital bone injury.

His second fight and loss of 2010 took place at UFC 117 in August, where Hazelett suffered a second round technical knockout loss to Rick Story.

Hazelett departs the UFC with a record of 5-5 for the organization and an overall mixed martial arts record of 12-7.
