NHL Trade Rumors: Could the Detroit Red Wings Look At Mike Smith?

NHL Trade Rumors, The Red Wings are looking to capture their 12th Stanley Cup title, but a key to making that a reality is fixing the issues that they have in net.

The Wings will no doubt be among the favorites to represent the West when the playoffs begin, but that doesn't mean that they are near being perfect.

The goal-tending has not been as good as the Red Wings are used to as Jimmy Howard has not separated himself as the starter and Chris Osgood is beginning to show his age. Mike Smith of the Tampa Bay Lightning has been mentioned as a player who could be coming to Detroit in a deal.

It has become more easy as the veteran goalie has been placed on waivers after being assigned to the AHL. Smith has shown throughout his career that he can be an exceptional goalie in the right environment.

The Red Wings have been known insert different goalies year to year that have led them to the "promise land" and Mike Smith could end up being that kind of goalie if given the chance.
