Breakfast Buffet: George Mason seizes control of CAA race

1. By the end of this season, George Mason may no longer be solely known for its surprise Final Four run five years ago. The Patriots took over sole possession of first place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a dominant 71-51 victory at second-place Virginia Commonwealth on Monday night, a performance that solidifies George Mason as an at-large contender.

2. Remember last year how enterprising Mississippi State fans got hold of DeMarcus Cousins' cell phone number before the Bulldogs played Kentucky and flooded it with messages? Well, Wildcats fans returned the favor this year, bombarding Renardo Sidney with phone calls and texts prior to Tuesday night's Kentucky victory.

3. Even small-conference Radford isn't immune to NCAA trouble. Radford suspended coach Brad Greenberg for its last four regular-season games on Monday for violations related to impermissible team travel and associated extra benefits for ineligible player Masse Doumbe.

4. What was the most special aspect of Jacob Pullen's 38-point masterpiece on Monday night? That it came against rival Kansas in a game few expected his team to win, the Kansas State guard's father told the Kansas City Star. "That's always incentive for him," Jerome Pullen said. "Whenever people are counting him out, he tries to play harder. He'll raise his game."

5. Washington guard Isaiah Thomas sat down with the Arizona Republic for a Q&A in advance of the Huskies' critical road games at Arizona State and Arizona this week. Thomas touches on the Huskies' Pac-10 title hopes, his first college dunk and why playing on the West Coast hurts him in terms of notoriety.

Instead of the typical youth basketball game or half-court shooting contest, Michigan found a far more novel way to entertain fans at halftime of a recent game. School officials put together a relay race pitting members of the Maize Rage student section against a group of trained dogs. The result? Dogs 1, Humans 0.

"I feel we play two different ways when it's home and away when it comes to older guys or guys stepping up. A different guy can step up at home but it seems like certain guys go away when we are away." -- Kentucky forward Terrence Jones on why the Wildcats have been dominant at home but vulnerable on the road.
