Urijah Faber has been clamoring and talking about this fight for a while now: a fight between him and bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.
Faber even went so far as to say, "Hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your belt," on national television to Cruz. But now, Faber's got it—a shot at the bantamweight title.
These two have had a war of words for some time now and could end up being the coaches on next season's The Ultimate Fighter 14, which will include bantamweights, featherweights, or possibly both classes.
“Yeah, that fight’s gonna happen,” Ultimate Fighting Championship president, Dana White said to MMAWeekly.com about Faber versus Cruz.
According to White, he has no timetable for the fight, saying, "No I don't."
Cruz and Faber have fought before, all the way back in 2006 at WEC 26.
They squared off for the featherweight title when both were still at that level. But instead of Cruz being the titleholder, it was Faber who was just starting his run as the WEC featherweight champion.
Faber won by submission (guillotine choke) in Round 1. Since that point, Cruz and Faber have not liked each and have wanted to square off one more time.
“I think I’d love to fight Scott because it would be a good thing for his career and my career, and I’d love to beat up Dominick Cruz," Faber said last December to MMAWeekly.com.
Cruz's loss to Faber is the only loss in his entire career. Cruz is 17-1 in his career.
