"We are pleased to announce that Jelan Kendrick has joined our program," Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy said in a statement. "Jelan is a very talented young man that was looking for an opportunity to start anew. His talent has never been questioned with versatility being his greatest strength. After visiting with him and his family, we are excited about his future as an Ole Miss Rebel."
Kendrick was a McDonald's All-American as a high school senior, but has yet to play in a collegiate game. Memphis coach Josh Pastner suspended Kendrick indefinitely in October, reportedly for a run-in with a teammate, before dismissing him in November.
For Ole Miss, the skilled 6-foot-6 scoring forward marks an unusual injection of high-end talent. Kendrick will be the first McDonald's All-American to play for the Rebels.
He will be eligible to play the second semester of the 2011-2012 season.
