Danica Patrick held a press conference in conjunction with her duties as grand marshal of the Greer's Press Register.com Mardi Gras Parade prior to the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
During the press conference, the subject of NASCAR just happened to come up. Patrick naturally expressed her appreciation for the five year relationship she has had with GoDaddy.com.
Patrick said, "I was blown away by how nice the NASCAR people were in general from the drivers, owners and fans who were very, very supportive."
She was asked about her timetable to race the Cup. Patrick explained she would be racing IndyCar and the NASCAR Nationwide series this year and that she only had experience with 13 races in the second tier of the sport.
Patrick stated, "See how my progress is going. There are a lot of good opportunities out there. I don't know. Unless I plan on doing NASCAR there is less of a point doing Cup."
She added, "I'm lucky I don't have to make that decision quite yet. I still have a long way to go to really establish this is the thing I want to do. At some point I have to choose one or the other, but glad I don't have to yet."
Patrick also said of her NASCAR endeavors that she wanted to "relate to fans" and "give honest answers to the fans."
As the IndyCar world makes changes to enhance their series, should she begin doing well with her open-wheel car, it pretty much looks like that is where her loyalty lies.
Once again, we shall watch the media frenzy around Patrick at Daytona International Speedway as Speedweeks unfolds and the NASCAR Nationwide cars take to the track preparing for the DRIVE4COPD 300.
We shall see her sincere attempt to finish on the lead lap and break the top-15 in each of the races she is scheduled to run in NASCAR this season. As she stated, opportunities are abundant for the media darling, and NASCAR may fall out of favor with Patrick once the upcoming season comes to an end.
As many have suspected, could her two year flirtation with NASCAR just be a media ploy underwritten by GoDaddy.com and NASCAR? It does play well, garnering attention to the sport, especially with her racing for JR Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Those avid Patrick fans expecting to see her race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series may find disappointment when she finally does have to make the decision as to what venue she will choose to race in.
