After being traded twice in his still-young career, Carlos Gonzalez is pleased to be calling Denver home for the foreseeable future. And considering he'll make $80 million over the next seven years to do so, who can blame him?
The Rockies on Tuesday officially announced their new deal with Gonzalez, with smiles all around at a Coors Field news conference.
"I (felt) at home from the first day I got here," Gonzalez said. "It's a special place. When you feel good, you play good.''
The financial details of the deal break down like this, via the Denver Post and Venezuela's Diario Panorama: Gonzalez gets a $3 million signing bonus and will make $1 million in salary this season. He'll then make $5 million in 2012, $7.5 million in 2013, $10.5 million in 2014, $16 million in 2015; $17 million in 2016 and $20 million in 2017. He's also due a $1 million assignment bonus each time he's traded during the course of the contract.
