Charles Oliveira Replaces Paul Taylor, Faces Donald Cerrone at UFC on Versus 5

"Relentless" Paul Taylor's loss is Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira's gain.

Due to a broken foot suffered by Taylor, the UFC tweets that he will not be able to fulfill his commitment to face Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone in Milwaukee on the UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle fight card.

The bout would have marked  Taylor's return to the Octagon after a successful UFC 126 victory over Gabe Ruediger, while Cerrone was coming off of a UFC 131 win over one Vagner Rocha.

Stepping in for Taylor after a submission-win-turned-no-contest against Nik Lentz a few weeks ago at the last UFC on Versus card, Oliveira pulls out of a planned UFC 138 bout with fellow ground specialist Joe Lauzon, who took home the Submission of the Night Bonus at the expense of Curt Warburton on the same Facebook prelims of the same UFC Live on Versus 4 card.

Like himself, Oliveira faces another ground ace in Cerrone, who is known for his brash personality as well as his Jiu-Jitsu game, his striking and his aggressiveness inside the cage.

Oliveira showed improved striking in his bout with Lentz and came out the more dominant fighter before throwing a possibly inadvertent but nonetheless illegal knee to Lentz, which set up the rear naked choke that scored Oliveira his initial victory.

While not announced by the UFC at this time, a win for Cerrone or Oliveira, if convincing enough, may set up a potential bout with the winner of Ben Henderson's bout with Jim Miller, which co-headlines the card headlined by a Dan Hardy-Chris Lytle showdown and could see its victor face the winner of Cerrone-Oliveira to potentially decide the next potential challenger for either Clay Guida or Dennis Siver.

We will have to wait until after this exciting bout at UFC on Versus 5 before we can start playing "matchmaker," but the possibilities are causing the lot of us to come up with some pretty intriguing ideas.
