NFL Lockout: Are Players Already Showing Lack of Unity?

NFL Lockout Hinges On Player Alliance

Now for my own sanity I have to believe that the recent report the an NFL player had to take a half a million dollar lone is just one isolated incident.

But that doesn't mean players are all on the same page.

Look at what Bears linebacker Lance Briggs recently said.

"We knew that the lockout was coming for two years now. Everyone was instructed to prepare. Those guys that didn?t do that are going to get hurt, like they are. I have a good financial team and we?ve been preparing for this for a while. It?s not hitting me like it is a lot of other guys. I?m pretty comfortable in my living right now."

Briggs wasn't openly chiding anyone, but it does reveal some discord between the groups. The veterans like Briggs or maybe Peyton Manning or Tony Gonzalez or whoever might have less patience for the second and third year players who didn't heed the advice about a forthcoming lockout.

Since (aside from the 18-game schedule) this entire lockout is about money, there is only naturally going to be some division and diagreement between the players, be it the two-year vets vs. the ten-year vets or the $5 million per season players and the league minimum guys.

Although the old saying is that "there is strength in numbers" I don't think it applies to the NFL lockout: when it comes to remaining united 32 savvy businessmen owners have the edge over hundreds of players, some of whom have plenty of life experience, some of whom are basically right out of college.
