For Tulane's sake, we're going to go ahead and assume that offensive coordinator Dan Dodd has reevaluated his priorities and truly couldn't resist the call of home:
Dan Dodd, the assistant head football coach at Tulane University, has accepted the position of K-12 athletic director and varsity football coach at Capistrano Valley [Calif.] Christian School, the school announced Tuesday. Dodd, a graduate of San Clemente High, replaces Chris Fore, who said he has resigned to pursue other opportunities.
[…]
Dodd played football at San Clemente High and Saddleback College before transferring to Drake University. Before graduating in 1978, he set three school passing records as the Bulldogs' quarterback. Dodd has 31 years of coaching experience, including serving as a high school and junior college head coach before spending 17 years at Division 1 colleges, including New Mexico and TCU, as an assistant head coach. At Tulane, he also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Or else that there was some kind of recent, unreported friction within the Green Wave coaching staff.
Because otherwise, that would mean Tulane — which is still a Division I school, as far as I know —cannot or will not offer enough salary, resources or quality of life to keep a key veteran assistant with four years in New Orleans, a longer history with head coach Bob Toledo and two college-age children from moving 2,000 miles away in the dead of the offseason for a high school job. And that can't be the case, can it?
