The Dallas Stars are currently fighting for their playoff lives in Minnesota. If the Stars are able to defeat the Wild in regulation or overtime they will claim the eighth seed in the Western Conference and will face the Vancouver Canucks.
If the Stars lose the game or go to the shootout, the Chicago Blackhawks will be awarded the eighth seed and will face the Canucks in the first round.
The Blackhawks could have avoided this dramatic finish had they been able to get one point against the Detroit Red Wings earlier today.
The Hawks could not overcome the Red Wings, losing 4-3 in regulation time.
The Stars and Wild are currently tied at three after two periods of play in Minnesota after Alex Goligoski scored on a five-on-three power play, firing a blazing slapshot past Jose Theodore at the 18:17 mark of the period.
