Buford is an excellent shooter that has NBA range. He is fearless when attacking the rim and is very strong and physical.
He does get out of control at times when going to the bucket. He is not a tremendous passer and he still has to develop his court vision and ability to find open teammates.
ESPN draft guru Chad Ford thinks Buford has a variety of skills in his arsenal.
"Athletic guard, excellent shooter with deep range, always looking to attack, strong, physical guard, very competitive, unusually unselfish for a scorer."
Buford may never be a All-Star in the NBA, but he is very quick and has good size for a shooting guard at 6-5, 205. His shot has come a long way since early in his career, but he still needs to work on it in the pros.
Matt Kamalsky of Draftexpress.com thinks his secondary status on this seasons Buckeyes is actually a good thing.
"The development of Buford as a role-player is very significant because of his lack of elite NBA physical tools. Lacking great size, strength and explosiveness, Buford has never shown the ability to regularly make dynamic plays around the basket.
His stacked Buckeyes didn't need him to carry the team. He embraced his role and proved to NBA scouts that he can do whatever is asked of him.
Good Fit or Bad Fit?
Buford fits in well for the Hornets as a role player that can compete with Marco Belinelli, for minutes. He is the sort of rugged defensive team the Hornets are quietly turning into to.
Buford could step into the New Orleans rotation right away and produce 20 effective minutes off the bench.
Buford is just the kind of guy the Hornets should take a look at with the 20th selection.
