WWE News: Backstage Update on Plans for Alex Riley and Michael McGillicutty

What's Next for Alex Riley and Michael McGillicutty?

On last night's Raw, we saw two former NXT contestants essentially get the boot from WWE television.

At the conclusion of the show, Alex Riley was "fired" as The Miz's personal employee, while Michael McGillicutty got the "Welcome back to FCW" punt in the head from Randy Orton.

So what lies ahead for Riley and McGillicutty?

According to wrestlenewz.com, there is talk of repackaging both Riley and McGillicutty before bringing them back to either Raw or Smackdown.

In other words, they're gonna get the Darren Young treatment. Well, let's hope not.

Now, I've never been a big McGillicutty fan, so I'm fine with him going back to FCW.

He's decent in the ring, but he's nothing special there and his mic work is as bad as just about anyone in the company.

As for Riley, on the other hand--and I know plenty of you will disagree with this--I'm actually a big supporter of his.

Though he comes across as a bit too forced on the mic at times, he's still pretty damn good in that area.

Riley also has a good look and above average in-ring skills when he isn't jobbing to John Cena or Jerry Lawler.

So the problem with sending him back to developmental for a couple months is that the WWE fans will will lose any interest in his character if he's gone that long.

It's important that the creative team keeps him on WWE TV, and thus, keeps him relevant.

Send him to Smackdown to wrestle the likes of Kofi Kingston in the mid-card, keep him on Raw to feud with Daniel Bryan for the Untied States Championship, do whatever you want.

Just don't send him back to FCW and effectively kill his career before it even begins.
