I wasn't going to write about the NBA Playoffs this season.
But desperate times call for desperate measures.
Today, I am calling on sports fans of all stripes to band together and focus our collective energy on jinxing the Miami Heat for the rest of their series with the Boston Celtics. We cannot allow this to stand.
Now, in the effort of full disclosure, I must admit that I am not a Celtics fan. In fact, if they should pull off an epic comeback and beat Miami, I will immediately start rooting against them if they play the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals.
But this is bigger than that. This is good vs. evil. This is the Rebel Alliance vs. the Galactic Empire. This is Bud Fox vs. Gordon Gekko. This is the Hawks vs. The Mighty Ducks.
Still not convinced? Watch this. Or this.
Unless you live in Miami (or somehow continued to like LeBron after "The Decision") you are probably with me in vilifying they Heat.
They haven't earned it. They got here through sheer disloyalty (or collusion if you like conspiracy theories).
The point is this. If you care about the game of basketball and want to see a team win this year's championship, then you should join me tomorrow night for game three in rallying the Celtics to victory.
Love them or hate them, the Celtics have earned respect since they put together their own dream team in 2007. Many will argue that what Boston did then is no different than what Miami is doing now. To that, I say watch this again.
Boston is down, but not out. If you are going to the game Saturday, then this article goes double for you. Be loud. Don't let up. Make sure LeBron hears it every time he touches the ball.
For the rest of us, we just have to will the Celtics to win.
Miami may win more than a few championships, but it can't be this year.
It's for the good of the game.
