John Kuhn Brings Experience From Time With Steelers Into Super Bowl

John KuhnDALLAS -- John Kuhn is the only active Green Bay player who has a Super Bowl ring. Ironically, the fullback/running back won it five years ago as a member of the practice squad of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Packers' opponent in Super Bowl XLV on Sunday at Cowboys Stadium.

"It's definitely fun to be playing the Steelers since I know so many of those guys, but it wouldn't have mattered who we played," said Kuhn, whom the Packers claimed off waivers from the Steelers on the eve of the 2007 season. "This game is as big as anything in the world. But I always root for the Steelers to win when they're not playing us. They hold a special place for me since they're the ones who gave me my chance in the NFL."

Kuhn, who had starred at Division II Shippensburg (Pa.), earned that chance with the Steelers thanks to his roots in York, Pa., also the hometown of Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

"My former baseball coach, the former mayor of York, Charlie Robertson, called me and said, 'We got a kid from York at Shippensburg that's a pretty good player. You oughta look into him,' " Arians said on Thursday. "I got some film on John and did a little research. Then I went to Dick Hoak, our running backs coach, and (recommended that we sign him as a rookie free agent).
